On Friday, August 1st over 60 boats and 250 anglers competed in the 21st annual Joe Cronin Memorial Fishing Tournament to benefit the Jimmy Fund. The tournament raised over $450,000 this year, one of the biggest one-day fundraisers for the organization.

Starting with a captain’s meeting on Thursday night at Nauticus Marine, fishing on Friday and an awards ceremony and auction on Friday night, the Joe Cronin Memorial Tournament is one of the best-attended fishing tournaments on the East Coast.
With a fishing window from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM on Friday morning, it was tough to find a consistent striper bite, so many boats headed towards Sankaty Light on Nantucket to chase the schools of 10- to 12-pound bluefish that have been found there consistently throughout the month.
EJ Jaxtimer aboard Thresher won the bluefish division with a 12.85 gorilla, Robert Jaye took a 29-pound striped bass to win that division and Brady Lee caught an impressive 12.6-pound bluefish to win the kids bluefish division.
