4th Annual Big 3 Fishing Tournament

Donations Raised Will Help Agency Expand Services to More At-Risk Youth on the Cape & Islands

Boston, July 31, 2017 – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands today announced that the agency raised more than $365,000 in donations at the 4th Annual Big 3 Fishing Tournament. The money raised will help the agency fulfill its goal of reaching more than 400 local children who are in need of a positive, adult role model by 2019 and servicing the nearly 90 children on the agency’s wait list who have yet to be matched with mentor.

The sold out event took place on Friday, July 14 at the Wychmere Beach Club in Harwich, MA, where more than 300 guests gathered to watch the tournament take place. The winner, Jeff Feuerman, a Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay Board of Overseers member, reeled in a 203 pound tuna on his vessel, No Mercy, which was one of 43 participating boats in the tournament. In addition to the Big 3, the agency also hosted the Little 3 event that morning, which allowed Bigs and Littles to participate in a fishing venture of their own out of Harwich Point’s Allen Harbor.

“This year’s Big 3 Fishing Tournament was an even greater success than we could’ve imagined – largely due to the continued support of our partners and the committee members who first developed this event three years ago,” said JR Mell, Regional Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands. “It’s crucial that we continue to expand our services to attract more adult volunteers as the number of children on our waiting list increases, and it’s events like this one that make that growth possible. Each year we are more impressed with how the event has grown and are thrilled to see the generous donations of our supporters be put to use in helping us serve more families on the Cape and Islands.”

Since it was founded only four years ago, the Big 3 Fishing Tournament has raised more than $1 million for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands – making it the regional agency’s largest fundraiser. The annual event draws notable members of both the Cape’s and Massachusetts Bay’s philanthropic community, who are committed to changing the lives of in-need children by providing them with a positive, adult role model.
