Backyard Retreat ~ Osterville

On Thursday, October 7, 2021, the Gold BRICC Award for Excellence in Outdoor Living Space Design Over $100,000, was accepted by E.J. Jaxtimer, president and owner of E.J. Jaxtimer Builder, Inc. for the “Backyard Retreat.” Designed by Sudbury Design Group, this custom designed freestanding open air pool cabana was completed in June 2020 just in time to enjoy the summer months. The structure provides privacy from the abutting golf course and incorporates a clever designed landscape to enhance the aesthetics of this backyard oasis.

To ensure a solid frame, the complex structure was engineered with steel beams and wood components. The cabana features a real wood burning fireplace with a chimney made of New England fieldstone and thermal bluestone. The flooring was also constructed with thermal bluestone pavers. The cabana was enhanced with red cedar shingles, a copper flat seamed roof, New England Estate Style Louver red cedar shutters by New England Shutters Mills, and a custom designed and fabricated rustic door by E.J. Jaxtimer Builder, Inc. The outdoor kitchen area was incorporated into the design for optimal entertaining and features high-end energy efficient appliances, a 2″ thick bluestone countertop, powder coated stainless steel cabinets, and a convenient gooseneck pulldown faucet.

The landscaping, also designed by Sudbury Design Group, includes new features to compliment the existing outdoor living space and pool area. Multi-pattern bluestone was selected to blend in with the bluestone around the existing pool. To add additional privacy, selective shrubbery and full grown trees including paper birch, blue spruce, and white pines were planted alongside bordering neighbors and the golf course.
This outdoor living project’s special features consist of the award winning Bromic Platinum Smart-Heat™ outdoor heaters that blend seamlessly into their environment providing optimal warmth into the off season. It is equipped with an energy efficient Lutron infrared lighting control system, a motorized awning for additional shading, high-end ENERGY STAR® appliances, and smart technology.
